Position Overview


We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Bookkeeping Account Lead & Tax Professional to join our team to cover a 13 month (0.75 FTE) maternity leave of one of our core staff members. This role combines client relationship management, comprehensive bookkeeping oversight, and tax preparation expertise. The ideal candidate will serve as a trusted advisor to clients, managing their financial records with precision while providing strategic guidance and tax solutions. 


Key Responsibilities


Bookkeeping Oversight & Account Management

  • Oversee and manage a portfolio of client accounts
  • Oversee full-cycle bookkeeping including accounts payable/receivable, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records using cloud-based accounting software (QuickBooks Online, Xero, or similar platforms) and desktop software (Sage)
  • Review transactions with attention to detail and proper GAAP compliance
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for clients
  • Monitor client accounts proactively to identify discrepancies, opportunities for improvement, or potential issues


Tax Preparation & Compliance

  • Prepare and file business tax returns (T2125, T5013) and individual tax returns (T1)
  • Ensure timely and accurate tax compliance for all assigned clients
  • Stay current with federal, provincial, and local tax regulations and requirements
  • Provide tax planning guidance and strategic advice to minimize tax liability
  • Respond to CRA and Provincial tax notices on behalf of clients
  • Calculate and manage estimated quarterly tax payments


Advisory & Client Relations

  • Provide strategic financial advisory services to help clients understand their financial position
  • Translate complex financial data into clear, actionable insights for business owners
  • Conduct regular client meetings to review financial performance and address concerns
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings
  • Educate clients on financial best practices and help them make informed business decisions
  • Build and maintain strong, long-term client relationships based on trust and expertise


Collaboration & Process Improvement

  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure seamless client service delivery
  • Mentor junior team members and provide guidance on technical matters
  • Contribute to the development and refinement of internal processes and procedures
  • Participate in team meetings and professional development activities


Required Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of professional bookkeeping and tax experience
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • Certifications: One or more of the following strongly preferred:
    • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
    • Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) or similar professional certification
  • Technical Skills:
    • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Sage50 
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles and accounting best practices
    • Expertise in individual and business tax preparation (experience with tax software required)
    • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace
  • Tax Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of federal and provincial tax regulations for individuals and businesses
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to explain financial concepts clearly
  • Organizational Skills: Strong attention to detail with exceptional organizational and time management abilities


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with small to medium-sized businesses across various industries, including Not-for-Profit & Charitable organizations
  • Familiarity with industry-specific accounting requirements
  • Knowledge of payroll processing and sales tax compliance
  • Experience with practice management tools and CRM systems (Financial Cents)
  • Background in client-facing advisory services or consulting

  • Ability to attend virtual meetings during standard business hours (Pacific)
  • Strong self-motivation and ability to thrive independently

  • December 17, 2025 - Shortlisted candidates will be contacted
  • December 31, 2025 – Shortlisted candidates complete video assessment
  • January 2026 – Panel interviews conducted with selected candidates
  • January 2026 – Finalists complete online skills assessment
  • Late January 2026 – Formal offer extended and employment agreement issued
  • February 2, 2026 – Position start date, including one-month orientation and training period
  • February 26, 2027 - Position completes, however this role may extend if there is synergy and opportunity
